To enhance the reading unit, the class was privileged to have an ex-Navy Seal come and speak about his life. His name was Clay and he was such an inspirational and kind-hearted man. In just one short presentation he enchanted the whole room while he spoke about one thing after another, no restricting himself to any pattern. He told the class that he didn't care for public speaking and that's why he jumps around when he tells stories and just goes with the flow, because it feels more natural. Very coincidentally that related to the book Ceremony. Ceremony is constantly changing time and place and story that it's almost impossible to follow. The book just goes with the flow of Tayo's mind. It was a blessing to listen to Clay speak and extra cool that he speaks similar to the way Tayo thinks.
Something that Clay spoke about that really impacted me was his courage. The courage of all the men who fight and defend for our country is extraordinary. Often one can get lost in the daily grind and forget about things like the soldiers who are out there doing what they do so we can all live the way we like. When Clay told stories of his experience in the Navy he spoke with pride and honor even though he has been through unimaginable things. It was unbelievably evident how courageous he is and it was so eye-opening and special. I'm very thankful for all the courageous people out there doing their job with pride.
