Music Videos

Analyzing film is something I only have a small background on. However, as we begin to analyze music videos, small films, I feel things begin to click in my mind. I love the idea that there is more to films than just what meets the eye. I love learning that there's a reason things are in black and white, and that girl is looking into the mirror for a reason other than it just looking cool visually. I have thoroughly enjoyed hearing commentary on each music video thus far helping everything make sense.  I think learning more about film and understanding why things are a certain way will make me appreciate film so much more.

There were really interesting music videos shared in class. I really enjoyed breaking down the video for the song Hero of War by Rise Against. The first time we watched it through i just saw it as a whole. Then, once it was broken down and every little thing was explained, my eyes were opened. There were things that i hadn't seen at first and then they made so much sense. For example, the man laid in bed with his girlfriend but didn't show emotion and we agreed this showed his emotional detachment and distress. I also liked how he was shown in a playground which shows innocence or loss of innocence. I found everything I learned so interesting and am anxious to move to television and movies.

This photo is a shot from the Hero of War music video and is a really passionate part of the video.
