Another student in class did a presentation about the memoir The Liars Club by Mary Karr. This was a very interesting memoir to learn about because, in a lot of ways, it seemed very similar to the memoir I read, The Glass Castle. The memoir was the story of a young girls childhood and so was The Glass Castle. I found more similarities as the presentation continued such as the way the student described the tone of the book "Sad book written with a humorous tone, an artist mother, alcholoc parent, financial struggle, etc. It seemed very similar to the book I read which was so interesting and it made me feel like, because I enjoyed the book I read, I would probably enjoy The Liars Club.

Blog Reflection 2
A student in class presented about the memoir A Stolen Life by Jaycee Dugard. This memoir was shocking to hear about. I hadn't known very much about this tragic story until the presentation. It was so intriguing, that students continued to ask questions even after the presentation was over. It is a memoir written by a woman who was kidnapped at a young age and kept for 18 years. She was completely robbed of not only her childhood but her life. She didn't have anything, not even the right to say her own name. She was raped by her kidnapper and even had two children. Possibly the most shocking thing I learned about the memoir was that the kidnapper had a parole officer that visited the mans residence on a regular basis but they never looked in the backyard where Jaycee was kept. The other thing that was so crazy to learn was that even after Jaycee was alone in a room with police and could have asked for help she couldn't even say who she was because she had been so brainwashed. I was so compelled by this story I continued to read about it online after the presentation. It is so heartbreaking when things like this happen.
